American Girl Doll Dress

The first thing I did was print off the  pattern and added 1 inch to each side (which afterward I learned it was more like 2 1/2 inches to each side).

TOP:
First I took the straps and folded them down and sewed them closed. After that I put it against the doll and decided how the straps would fit in. Once that was decided I sandwiched them into the top (right sides together with the straps on the inside). After you've sewn it together turn it right side out again.

For an added look, try scrunching the front of the bodice and add a button or rose.

SKIRT:
Hem the bottom, sew the back together and gather. Sew it to the top.

Here are some more of my American Girl Doll items to brows:
Witch Costume

feel better kit  (Just like McKenna's!)
Gymnastics accessories

Gymnastics Accessories for AG Doll

So I'm starting on Chirstmas a little early. What would my oldest would really really like?  Why McKenna's gym accessories of course! Now, I'm not just talking the hula hoop, the ribbon and the leotard (which she already owns one for her doll anyway). I'm talking the beam as well. As of right now my husband and I plan to make all of this stuff instead of buying a lot of stuff for Christmas- because that is the real meaning of Christmas.

Today I only had enough time to make the ribbon, I still have to go out and buy the materials to make the hula hoops. I took cake rods (you can use kabob sticks) and cut them into a good size (measured it against the dolls hand).

Then I hot glued the ribbon part around the rod (covering the sharp edge). I then wrapped a different color ribbon around  the base once.  Then  added a hair twistie and wrapped the ribbon around and glued it down.

I added a hair twistie so that the girls dolls could hold the ribbon wand by themselves.

My other American Girl items:

American Girl arm brace

Pintrest Objective:http://pinterest.com/pin/195765915022349247/
Original blog: sewing.craftgossip.com

What you'll need:
White fabric ( I used an old hanes t-shirt) measuring: 6 inch by 8 inch (the original blogger says to cut two  3″ x 4.75 pieces)
Batting
Velcro
The original blogger said to use tights... I found them hard to work with and got the same effect from the cheap fabric I have at home .Also it's more fun because you can change the color.

Directions:
Cut your batting and white fabric the size of your choice. Take the tights or the fabric and cut them into strips. Lay the white fabric as your base, add the batting to the top. Next lay the strips of fabric all over the bandage lengthwise (up and down) This is the most annoying part...stitching  the  strips of fabric onto the bandage.

Once you're done, use the zig zag stitch and go around the boarder of the bandage. Test it on your doll and mark where the thumb goes, this was you can cut a SMALL square out.  Then zig zag stitch around. Lastly, add the Velcro in according to the length of the bandage.

My daughter would not let me write on the cast...soo we left it as is. Tomorrow I'm going to figure out the Hospital gown and leg cast ;)
Now you're ready in case she breaks her arm!

Minnie Mouse Ears for American Girl Doll

Pintrest Objective:  http://pinterest.com/pin/195765915022431089/

Originally blogged: katiejdesigns.wordpress.com

Once again I found myself wanting to make something I did not have these exact pieces. So I had to alter this pattern to make it work with what I've got! I made a pair of Minnie ears for Hailey when she was a newborn, this was pretty much the same thing. I'm sad I didn't come up with it first!

What you'll need:
Black felt:
2 strips of black measuring: 10″ x  .75″ (note it does not go all the way around the head- that's 12")
4 circles measuring 2.75" around ( I had to use a Rockstar can to trace that! haha) cut off one end to make a flat bottom
elastic (11 1/2")
ribbon
glue gun
batting

Directions:

Find the center of your headband and mark it with a pin. Then make two slits in the band and set aside.

Sew the "ear" pieces together and turn right side out, stuffing it with batting along the way. If you want a "flatter" ear look I suggest going to the original bloggers page and following her directions. You'll need stiff black felt instead. Push the flat part of the ears into the slits of the headband and sew on.

Next you'll need to add the elastic- to save time threading it through the band, I "sandwhiched" it in between my bottom band piece and top band piece and sewed it together (see pictures to understand)

Next measure on your dolls head and sew together elastic pieces making sure it's a snug fit. Please not the felt pieces are not long enough to cover all the elastic...or at least mine were not.
Now you need to get your ribbon out and make a  simple hair bow.
Hot glue it onto the headband and you have Minnie ears! Hannah loves yellow, so naturally we chose yellow! ;)
