Ruffle skirt for American Girl

Alright the original pin I was going to use was spam, so I had to find a regular one and just down size. I used Kirsten's skirt pattern (found here for free) I  shortened it and cut semi it in half. It looked like this when I was done:

If sort of resembled a mini skirt.

So I pinned that to black fabric,cut it out, hemmed and sewed the bottom, and made a BIG this was my base. Next I chose the Halloween fabric I was going to use for Hailey's. Let me tell you, originally I was going to  make the likes vertical in long strips. Then I didn't like it and so I changed it to what I'm doing now. I cut them into  patches and sewed them back together. The ruffles strips must be the length of the base skirt and a half. Next hem each strip of fabric and sew it up.

 After that you gather the fabric and pin it to the black base. The top layer must be sewn right side to right side and flipped down. It will not stay down until the skirt is sewn together.

The next row can be sewn just under the first ruffle and so forth until you're done with  your ruffles. You can add as many ruffles as you like.

The tops were kinda thrown together. Using the Kirsten Birthday  shirt pattern I added length and width and the shapes- they look like this The white one is the front cut onto a fold:

 My youngest is going through a "tie top tank top" and my oldest liked the halter top look. The curved one is also cut on a fold
.

 After the fact my youngest wanted her shirt changed.

No sew Halloween tutu

These are super easy and cute to make! With Halloween right around the corner the girls were looking for fun things for their American Girl dolls to wear and be festive.  We picked up some tulle at the store last weekend and since I was coming down with a cold, this was the perfect time to start.

What you need:

Tulle
Elastic
sewing machine or needle and thread)


Alright so the term "no sew" is kinda tossed around because well, there has to be some sewing or how would the elastic stay together? Start by measuring the elastic around the dolls waist. Cut it and sew it back together. Measure the tulle against the dolls waist to however long you want it to be. Fold it in half and cut it into strips.

Once you're ready place the tulle under the elastic and pull the ends through the top (look at the pictures because I think the cold is kicking in and I'm not as detailed as I could be.

See the top has a hole? the bottom will go through that.

Continue all the way around, changing colors when you need to.

Mickey shirt for American Girl

What you'll need:
fabric
thread
Mickey Mouse emblem ( I made mine from a small Tylenol bottle and a quarter!)
elastic
ribbon

Now this lady can be pissed at me alllll she wants. Chances are she does not give any of the money she makes off of that outfit to Disney, because she does not own the Mickey Mouse emblem. Although I admit her choices in fabric were awesome, I just have to use what I have and deal.
Moving on:
Using the basic pillow dress pattern I had from my other pin american-girll-doll-dress I folded the dress part in half, cut the back part down and the sides in about 1/2 to 3/4 inch in, hem the bottom of the dress up  I would actually recommend the back piece just be a rectangle.(to see how to pin the top, please look at the other blog, it's late and I'm sick :(   )

After you've folded the top front piece over, thread the ribbon through so that you'll be able to tie it off around the dolls neck halter top style. When you fold the back in thread a piece of elastic (I measured Elizabeth's back from side to side to get the number. I then check the the fit for the shirt and placed the Mickey emblem onto the shirt in the position and spot I wanted to have it show up & sewed it on.  My dress came out more pillow flowy than the original one, if you want it more straight than mine, slim the original pattern down. Also the original source's neck line is slimmer than mine. This can also be corrected when you print the pattern.

All in all this was a little harder to make than I was anticipating... being sick probably didn't help. Either way it came out really cute and Hailey adores it.
